eMachines has rolled out one of the zanier small form factor desktops to date, known as the Mini-e Home Entertainment Center. Don’t be surprised by its size – it might be as small and thick as a small book, but it packs quite a punch where home theater PCs are concerned. Featuring a unique glossy black diamond shaped chassis that seemingly “floats” in a matte silver pedestal, it is capable of emitting a soft ambient green glow along the lower edge for that added touch of class whenever it is powered and ready to go. The eMachines Mini-e measures 7.1? in diameter, tipping the scales at a mere 9 pounds which would make it rather dangerous for you to have a cat or lumbering dog around the home since either one could easily knock over the Mini-e while it is running. More on it in the extended post.

The slim and compact Mini-e ER1402 will certainly be more than able to offer full HD multimedia entertainment as well as every day computing capabilities, making it suitable not only in the living area but in the study as well, especially if you’re starved for space. After all, with its capability of being able to be snapped onto the back of most monitors or TVs, is portability at home personified. It doesn’t require a genius to get the entire setup up and running, while built-in 802.11 b/g/n wireless connectivity makes it a snap to get on the Internet straightaway. With its HDMI interface, you can hook it up to a large screen TV while an S/PDIF port allows the system to digitally connect to a home audio system. Other hardware that comes with it include a wireless keyboard and mouse, letting you play popular Flash-based social media games, surf the web, view and edit photos, stream video content from Netflix or Hulu, or watch HD movies comfortably from the sofa.

It will run on the Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit operating system, with an AMD Athlon II NEO processor making sure the proceedings go on smoothly. Graphics-wise, an NVIDIA GeForce 9200 graphics card ought to do the job just fine, while 2GB RAM is available for the Mini-e ER1402 to handle basic, everyday computing tasks, which include (but are not limited to) word processing, VOIP calls, email, spreadsheets or managing family finances. Other features include a quartet of USB 2.0 ports, a multi-in-one digital media card reader and a 160GB hard drive. At $299.99 a pop, this is definitely worth considering if you’re looking for a casual computer in your home.

JayBird SB2 Bluetooth Headphones

It looks like JayBird is tapping into the sudden love for the 80’s by releasing headphones with colors that could easily be described as neon. These Bluetooth headphones also come in less neon colors, so if you’re not really loving that trend, you’re still in luck. Plus, with these headphones, you don’t have to deal with any of those unattractive cords.

The wide band might not appeal to absolutely everyone, but it does still stick with that 80’s feel. These headphones will work with Bluetooth A2DP or even apt-X Bluetooth audio codec. On the side of most of their headphones they include buttons to control your music. Plus, to finish off the deal there is an integrated mic for making phone calls. You can purchase a pair of these for $99.

Aluminum Sound Tube MP3 Speaker

ThinkGeek has just introduced their latest $39.99 Aluminum Sound Tube MP3 Speaker for the masses, where it might not look as though it amounts up to much, but surprisingly enough, it will function similarly to a full size speaker, being really loud when it needs to be for those who love to crank it up. Who would have thought that such a design could result in a booming speaker? This is definitely a different speaker from all that you’ve seen so far, with the addition of an integrated MP3 playback and a rechargeable battery. You can opt to hook it up to your iPod or choose to bring it along with your speaker, although others will even try to hook it to their bicycle handlebars and make a menace of themselves in the neighborhood.

iPhone 4 costs $188 to build

Posted in Gadget on July 4th, 2010 by admin – Be the first to comment

The whole world seems to be obsessed with how much things cost, and the same applies to the iPhone 4. For other countries where the smartphone is not available officially yet, folks who want first mover advantage to pick up an unlocked handset will have to fork out up to $1,000 for it, which is plain insanity if you ask us. It gets worse after you realize that the iPhone 4 costs all of just $188 to build, sans marketing and promotion dollars of course. A breakdown of the components point towards the Retina Display being the most expensive component within, as it is estimated to retail for $28.50. Bear in mind that this figure is based on the $199 16GB model with a two-year service contract in the US. As for the custom-built A4 processor, this Samsung-assembled piece of silicon is estimated to go for $10.75, while its gyroscope costs less than a burger at $2.60. What do you think of forking out much more money over a 2-year contract for something which is intrinsically worth less than a couple of Benjamins?

Magellan GPS has just rolled out its latest rugged protective case known as the ToughCase, where it will offer both the iPhone as well as iPod touch full waterproof capabilities – just make sure you have a decent pair of waterproof headphones to go along with it! Targeting outdoor enthusiasts and outdoor professionals, this new ToughCase will not be limited in its release to selected regions only, and what makes it all the more special would be the integration of GPS navigation capability, further enhancing the accuracy of location-based and GPS applications for both the iPhone 3G and iPod touch, all the while offering protection as well as providing unmatched accessibility to all iPhone and iPod touch features.

According to Justin Doucette, Director of Product Marketing for Magellan GPS, “The ToughCase is the ideal solution for all outdoor users. From kayakers to golfers, mountain bikers to construction workers, it provides a level of protection and performance previously unavailable in other cases. The ToughCase protects against harmful elements such as dust, rain, mud, water and snow.”

As mentioned earlier, this unique case design will pave the way for full and unhindered access to Apple’s revolutionary Multi-Touch user interface, where users will be able to receive and place calls without compromising on the device’s protection. Since it is more than capable of meeting IPX-7 waterproof standards, this means you will be able to use the device underwater for up to half an hour, as long as you do not exceed 1 meter in depth. Guess snorkelling is fine with this, alongside swimming, but anything more than that is a no-no unless you have the budget for a new iPhone. Boasting a built-in 1840 mAh battery, it ought to double your battery life, while the integrated high sensitivity SiRFstar III GPS chipset delivers up to 3 meters of accuracy. Expect to pick up the Magellan ToughCase for $199.99 a pop.

The iPhone 4 testbed

Posted in Gadget on June 26th, 2010 by admin – Be the first to comment

Apple has revised the aesthetics of the phone, redesigned its firmware and added new functions. Result: faster and better equipped, four joined the iPhone technically its competitors while maintaining an edge in terms of simplicity and fun to use. Journal of detail.

Format

A little less wide and thinner than the iPhone 3G (9.4 mm against 12.3) but an equivalent weight, the newcomer is distinguished by its straight profile, which contrasts with the rounded case for his predecessor. The metal edges are antenna: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth left, GSM and 3G right. And round knobs have replaced long volume control buttons. At the surface, plates of tempered glass, more durable and less susceptible to scratching than plastic.

Equipment

The new iPhone has the same processor as the iPad. This results in a performance gain sensitive enough. Its battery has also evolved to offer one to two hours talk more (7:00 3G communication, 10 hours of video playback). To be more specific to games and other applications, the iPhone has four gyroscopes. A micro analysis of the additional background noise to eliminate ambient noise during the conversation. Finally, only micro-sized cards SIM can be used.

Screen

The screen size is the same (3.5 inches). But the display quality is incomparable. Brighter, more contrast, the iPhone screen 4 is also more specific: reached its resolution 960 × 480 × 640 pixels against 320 for the iPhone 3G. That means more points per square inch, and thus the ability to read small print where it distinguishes only blurred shapes on the old model. Another consequence: the iPhone can display four videos in HD 720p

Camera

No more half measures: the iPhone is equipped with four 5-megapixel sensor and a larger objective, which lets more light. In addition, a flash and 5X digital zoom. As before, it suffices to point the finger on the screen to automatically adjust the focus and exposure to the subject. The videotape also gains in quality: the images are captured in HD (720p) and you can use the flash during a shoot.

Videotelephony

This is the most spectacular feature of this new model: call a contact, then tap the camera icon and you will see his face on screen while he will see yours on the iPhone thanks to the camera VGA Crane. You can even choose the camera back to show the environment or objects. And the result is amazing!
System

The iPhone comes with four new version of OS 4 iOS brings several new features. The Multitasking can switch from one application to another without leaving the first and return by selecting its icon after pressing twice on the home button. Applications can be grouped into folders by dragging its icon from another. We may also collect several email accounts in one mailbox. The screen can be customized and are now receiving the application iBooks to download and read eBooks.

Rates
Available in white or black, the iPhone 4 costs € 629 16GB version and € 739 32GB version of the package with an operator, it is up to 199 € (16GB) or 299 € (32GB) .

• Orange offers its customers a discount (from 169 €) according to their loyalty points. A special package for iPhone 4 Origami was created with 5 hours of talk, television, text messages and unlimited internet for 55 € (with a commitment of 24 months). You can also choose a package Origami Zen, star, first or jet, but the rates are less interesting.

• Bouygues retains its television package for iPhone, SMS and unlimited Internet. It starts at € 39.90 for 2 hours of talk time (24-month commitment). Note the blocked package Universal Mobile € 27.90 for 1 hour and 30 communication with unlimited SMS and Internet.

• At SFR, subscription Illimythics 5 iPhone starts at € 43.90 (€ 39.50 for children under 26 years) with Internet, TV and unlimited SMS for one hour of communication. A proposed package is stuck at 29.90 € with unlimited Internet and SMS communication for 1 hour. The prepaid with unlimited Internet starts at 3 € per day with refills 24 hours.

The videophone, good or bad idea?

Function Features of the iPhone 4, video telephony is not really new to mobile phones. But few users use them. First, because it requires a terminal with a camera on the front. And the rates charged to the top quickly discouraged most enthusiastic … especially since the quality of communication is far from ideal. Often, the image is pixelated and freezes, his voice resembles that of a robot and the display is limited to the size of a thumbnail (176 × 144 or 352 x 288 pixels). Finally, psychological factor is important: some people like to show up in any situation. Apple’s solution has the merit of simplicity. No exorbitant price because communication through the wireless network with a standard flow, the image is of good quality and sound natural. Simply refuse the video link for not activate the camera. The question is whether the recipe will take and if other mobile manufacturers adopt the technology from Apple.
